Saudi Arabia Adopts 12th Edition of Nice Classification for 2023

In Saudi Arabia, a recent transition to the 12th Edition of the Nice Classification for the year 2023, effective from November 2, 2023, has brought notable changes to the trademark registration procedure. Notably, SAIP (Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property) no longer permits claims for class headings. Instead, applicants now have two choices when specifying the list of goods or services in their applications: they can either itemize the specific goods or services they intend to include from a predefined list or opt to cover the entire class by selecting all items within it. This shift marks a significant alteration in the registration process, offering a more precise and detailed approach for applicants.
