Saudi Arabia Embraces the 12th Edition of the Nice Classification

Commencing on November 2, 2023, the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) has officially adopted the 12th edition of the Nice Classification. Alongside this adoption, noteworthy changes include the discontinuation of accepting class headings. Henceforth, applicants are required to make a distinct choice by either specifying individual items from the list or opting for all items within a particular class.

This transformative shift signifies a deliberate transition toward a more meticulous and precise methodology in the trademark application process. It is imperative for applicants, particularly those with an international background, to navigate this updated system with a well-informed and strategic approach. Seeking guidance from local counsel is strongly recommended to adeptly navigate the intricacies of the revised classification.
